It works. Simply "point" the EVA8000 to the shares directory and it scans the contents within a few minutes - then writes a lookup list to a device of your choosing. This unit only draws 5W, and it uses that Sigma Media SM8622 chip for hardware decoding.
Be advised: The EVA8000 is very buggy, and reviews were accordingly all over the map. We did the usual "run around and try everything out" following purchase - but quickly settled for it's intended MPEG2 playback function (which is flawless). While our trial utilized some pretty underpowered hardware to host their "exotica function" Windows software - none of that fancy goop worked for us.
Unassisted playback of standard MPEG2s from the SMB/CIFS NAS 2 was completely without surprises.
We've tried quite a few methods for MPEG playback from a standard NAS. None of our earlier efforts worked very well....
I expect to see many boxes on the market with this chipset.
