i am thinking of installing my naslite onto a compact flash card.
can anybody tell me what requirements are there for the card and reader ?
there are loads on ebay but want to get the right one .
Obvisaly it has to be bootable item

do you need to format the card first ?

then is it just a case then of copying the files to the card ?

steve

not all cf card readers work - i had 2 of the multi card readers - neither worked - bought a 'hama' single card reader that was fine

there are threads on here with loads of help on the subject - search for cf/ide or similar

You will need 2 items
* a usb card reader to write to the CF-card (as simple as possible)
* a IDE-CF adapter to boot from your CF-card

if you're planning to keep the CF-card in the cardreader and use booting from USB,
you can save yourself a lot of hassle and just boot of an old USB stick
(if your mobo supports booting of USB)

if you want to use the CF as a "harddrive" to boot from, do this

burn your naslite-ISO to CD
connect your CF-card via USB
reboot from the naslite cd
create your naslite USB drive (on the CF card)
[all this can be done from your normal windows pc]
insert the CF-card in the IDE-CF adapter and boot the nas
unlock, configure network settings, configure storage

all this can be found in the manual page 8

With the release of naslite 2 hdd, all this can be avoided
this version will create an 8 MB partition to install naslite on the primary harddrive
the remaining drivespace can be configured as storage

good luck
