I've been recently having problems with RSync. I use Deltacopy on my WinXP machine to sync files to my NASLite system for backup.

For some reason, I've been having a lot of problems with Rsync saying files have failed verification. It will retry and fail again. It seems to be worst with larger files.

I've tried rebooting, and after a lot of repairs to the file system, it still does the same thing.

It used to work so well that I never had to mistrust it, but now I have to do everything manually or use SyncToy.

Any ideas what I should check?

Can the system date and time being wrong on the NAS make it do things like this? I set the date right, but I'm not sure what to set the time to. I am in EST zone, but it says not to use local time.

Look for disk error in the syslog. You may have to check cables and connections. I had a drive tray that was flaking like that. Same thing, rsync will wig out and cause a load of errors.

Well, turns out it's not just RSync.

Files are getting corrupted on all 3 drives, regardless of how they are transferred.

And when I play back a DVD from the NAS that I know is a good copy, it gets glitched up during playback. It doesn't seem to be a network speed issue, so somehow both incoming and outgoing data are getting corrupted.

I'm thinking it's either the RAM, or the hard drive controller card (Sil680). Anything else I should check? This was a new build, and nothing has been moved or tampered with, so I don't think it's a cable issue.

You need to start by verifying the integrity of your hardware. This is not a software issue.
