I'm sure the adapter is set as master, as it's booted up on another machine.
I didn't have a power supply to it, but now i've connected it it just hangs at 'verfiying DMA pool data', and doesn't even get to a system disk error.
Looks like i'll either have to wait for the Transcend disk (out of stock ATM), or bung in a 2.5" laptop drive until it arrives.
I would have tried another motherboard, but the RAID card is 64bit PCI- X

'It booted up OK on the old Shuttle SS51G i used to configure the CF card'
If there's still a problem, I guess this is the root to look at.....

Get in the BIOS, see what parameters the CF is autodetected with and write them down some place. The change the setting from auto to user and use the same CF parameters it was detected with but select lowest PIO mode or compatible. Do not select UDMA, large block or any other performance modes.. Set the boot order and give it a try.

Some BIOSes have a problem with CF and DMA or geometry.

That, and the suggestion of dimension to carefully look at the bios parameters.

Thanks both of you for the suggestions. I did wonder whether the mode settings would have an effect. I'll give them a try.
My Transcend module has just arrived this morning, but i'm going to try and get the CF card working first. I'm not going to let the little b****r beat me.

Thanks dimension & PieterB
The BIOS wouldn't let me enter the values manually, but i disabled Block mode & UDMA, set PIO mode to 0 and viola - it booted up no problem.
A bit slow though - so i'll try the transcend flash module and see if it's any faster.

Just curious: how's the Transcend Flash Module performing?

(mine is arriving somewhere next week)

I was pretty busy at the weekend and was busy copying media files over from my existing Naslite 2 server for testing, so didn't have a chance to try it.
I'm finished work early tomorrow, so i'll see if i get a chance to try it out and let you know.

Tried the Transcend IDE module in two computers and couldn't even get them to recognise it in the BIOS. Hope i haven't got a dud.

PieterB

Got Nalite installed onto the Transcend module, it starts to boot then mentions something about'Unable to handle NULL pointer' a load of gibberish (to me anyway) finishing with 'Bad EIP value' and a Kernel panic.
Back to the CF card for now.

I'd be interested to see how your Transcend module pans out.

That sucks. Did you also try the module as the only IDE device connected? -It shouldn't make a difference though.

Are the modifications you made for the CF card maybe interfering?

Just read your second post on this issue. Here the expertise of a NASLite professional is needed I guess.

Here's a data sheet:

http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLC ... -Flash.pdf
It mentiones something about the power supply to the device.

BTW: did you also mount the module just as a IDE drive (no booting) to test the module?

I've had the null pointer, kernel panic error before - it was an IRQ conflict.

I'm sure i've disabled everything i can, but i'll have a quick look at the log file (not that i'm an expert) may have to call on Tony or Ralph.

I've got a power supply to it (comes with an adaptor)

It's recognised in the BIOS and i did change the settings back from those for the CF card. It's the only IDE device connected apart from the Raid card.

I didn't gat a lot of attempts as the Raid card BIOS really slows the boot process. I'll probably take the card out to try more configurations as it's really frustrating waiting to press the Del key at the right moment.

It'll probably be Thursday before i get another chance to try an further.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
