I've just updated my NASLite set up to 2.06, and I can connect from my Mac via https, ftp and smb but not afp.

Bonjour finds my NAS box and displays it in the Network area of finder, but if I select it I'm only offered the option of connecting via smb/cfis.

If I try going Finder > Go > Connect to server and try afp://<ip_address> I get the message

"The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."

According to the status page AFP is running ok.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Barry

You must enable AFP in the admin menu and save. The old config did not account for the new service and is obviously missing parameters that should be applied.

Hope that helps...

I enabled AFP when I set up 2.06. If I go to Admin > Services Configuration it says:

7 - AFP [RW] (RW, RO, --)

But at the top of the page where it lists the Currently Active services AFP isn't listed.

Have I missed something somewhere?

Thanks

Barry

Did you save the config and reboot?

Check the firewall in OSX

in a Finder window under Network, you should see, if your NL box is called NASLite-2 :

NASLite-2 <-Samba
NASLite-2 AFP
NASLite-2 FTP
NASLite-2 NFS (Status)

And what version of OSX are you running?

The OSX firewall is switched off. I do have a firewall in my router, but I believed that only blocked activity in an out of the network, not across it. Maybe the problem is there, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

All I see in my Finder (and this was true in previous versions of NASLite too) is:

MIR (the name of my NASLite box)

This is the SMB share. When I click on it I get the option to connect to Disk-0, Disk-1, Shares and Status.

I'm running 10.4.10 on an Intel Mac. (In fact two Intel Macs and the result is the same on both)

Thanks

Barry

Bearing in mind that in the Service Configuration window of NASLite I see:

Currently Active ( TELNET HTTP RSYNC FTP SMB/CFIS NFS )

Is it not likely that the problem is there rather than my network?

So, let me get this straight, NASLite says FTP SMB and NFS are running, but not AFP.

And then your Macintosh only shows SMB in the network panel?

Have you rebooted these mac's lately? I find bonjour gets confused when I reboot my NL box and I have stale connections to it from OSX.

Yes, at the top of the page it lists the running services, and AFp is not one of them. However, in the list of services it says:

7 - AFP [RW] (RW, RO, --)

Which I assume means it should be running?

Both machines have been rebooted. I have an iMac that's on most of the time which I rebooted to see if that helped, and a MacBook which was switched off for two days, and I only booted it up to see if there was any difference between the two.

The following screen shots shows AFP as not being listed in the set of active services even though it is enabled, has been saved and rebooted. Additionally the other screen shot shows the web interface showing that the NASLite AFP process is not running:

I seem to be having the same problem. Do any OS-X options need to be turned on? My Firewall is off. Do I need to turn on Appletalk? Windows Sharing? Anything else we need to turn on or off to get this to work?

In the NasLite server status, should we see active processes for AFP? I tried to look at the manual, but I don't see any updates for using AFP. Please guide us!

Are all of you with this issue using an existing naslite configuration, or reconfiguring it from scratch?

I reconfigured everything from scratch.

When I booted from the new version CD, it did not recognize my existing configuration and I even had to reformat the floppy before NASLite would save the new config to it again.
