Hi,

The message is in the subject ;-)

In short, I want to change the USB key on which I had NL2 installed. Do I have to reinstall NL to the new key or can I copy it using XP Pro?

TIA

Ideally, you should use the conventional method of programming, booting and configuring. However, in many cases, especially if the USB flash you wish to use as a duplicate is the same as the original, you may be able to save the config by simply replacing the USB flash while the server is running and saving the config to the new device. That of course assumes you have programmed the new, duplicate USB flash via the CD prior to saving the existing config.

i did it by using a cd version of puppy linux - boot from the cd and copy the usb adaptor in disc copy

could not get windows to copy the whole usb stick - it seemed to - but would not boot

Tnx Tony,

No, the keys will not be the same. The actual key is a USB2 Jumpdrive and the key I found is a USB1 noname key. And, to make things more complicated, it was "divided" in 2 drives/partisions and 1 is read only...

I suppose I should reinstall NL-USB to the new (USB1) key. Boot with the old (USB2) key, change keys and put the new USB1 in place and save the config via NL. Exact ?

Regards.

Sounds like a plan. Worst case, the new USB key will enumerate differently than the original and you'll not be able to save the config to it. In that case, you'll have to boot fresh and reset all the values manually. It should take no more than 5 minutes.

Does that include the time taken to bring out and connect monitor and keyboard? :)

Nah, No need for monitor and keyboard. I just do it on my laptop. Then I boot the NAS and finalize using TELNET.
