Good chance it will work, the controler appears to be based on an LSI chipset and is Hardware RAID using an Intel I960 RISC processor. It's not like it takes hours to load and setup NL so give it a try.

Assuming that particular Dell 2550 shipped with RAID from the factory, it will have a PERC 3/DI (Ultra 3 SCSI, Dual channel, Integrated) RAID controller, which is an Adaptec based product.

The PERC 3/DI controller is listed as being supported in the NASLite-2 Hardware Reference Guide.

Hum, did a really quick search of the dell site that they said it was LSI based SCSI. I stand corrected. Sorry for the bad info.

That server reminds me of two Compaq 1600s that we have in the office. I was looking at bringing them back to life with NASlite, but I am concerned that another power supply failure would just be a aggravation and the ones we have are not hot-swap. Let us know if it works for you...

There are six different PERC 3 RAID controllers - the integrated PERC 3 controllers (3/SI & 3/DI) are Adaptec based, and the PCI PERC 3 controllers (3/SC, 3/DC, 3/DCL & 3/QC) are AMI/LSI based.

The trick lies in knowing which controller would have been shipped with a particular system - the 2550 was one of the servers with the integrated or RAID On Mother Board option.

Well, I got another project out of the way last night. I have a few sca drives I can stick in this unit and we'll give it a go.

I just did not want to get tied into a license just yet if this did not work out.

Well here goes, my CDD license is freed up as I have moved to usb on my other box. I had a few 146gb drives around loaded up win 2003 on the box. So far appears stable.

Getting ready to blow out windows and install naslite. Its a LSI perc 3/dc 3/dcl raid controller.

Am I going to need to flash this with LSI firmware for it to work??

And I guess I need to wait for 2.06 for the raid to work since there is no i2o support in 2.05??? Or can I do the kernal file swap for the time being??

Cool deal, just a note, its running like a champ..

Either lucky or just lucky, but did'nt have to do much to get it to work.. I did copy the kernel from 2.03 to 2.05. Other than that maybe up online in 20 mins or so..

2 naslite boxes, let's make these 2 Furby's talk to each other ;)
