Hi,

I've just configured my server with NasLite, All seems well, i can see my disks, however I wanted to set up the disks to be Raid0.

I have a Silicon Images 3114 controller card with 4 x 300gb Disks on it.

Do i need to set up the raid from the Hardware controller (i'm guessing i do) if so i'm a little confused as

A: When i set up a Raid config earlier it still just showed 4 disks
B: Isnt the 3114 a fake Raid? in which case Isnt it likely to fail? only it seems to be listed as a working card.

Any help appreciated.

Okay, think i found my Answer,

am i correct in thinking that i can use the SI3114 as a controller but not as Raid?

If anyone can confirm that would be great.

The SiI 3114 can indeed be used as a SATA controller, but as you surmised only as a SATA controller. Its driver assisted RAID functions do not function in NASLite-2.

However, hardware RAID cards (3Ware, LSI Megaraid and Adaptec) can be found on eBay for reasonable prices. Check the hardware compatibility reference guide (twice!) before buying one though....

I bought an Adaptec 2610SA (6-port SATA RAID) card and found that it was the wrong variant - HP OEM instead of Dell OEM, the Dell one being the only one supported by upto v2.04 - it has since been added in the latest release of NASLite-2. (Thanks Tony & Ralph!)
