Alright, so I tried out my Adaptec 2610sa in RAID 5, and I get pretty good writes (43/mb average). However, my reads were averaging around 12 mb/sec. It appears the data is read in bursts, and not continuous. It also takes about 5 seconds are so to begin the read request. Writes are instant.

I thought it may be the Adaptec card, so I bought a new 3ware 8506-8lp card, which gives me even WORSE speeds (35 mb/s write, 6 mb/s read).

I am running a gigabit network.

If anyone can help me out with this issue, it would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: With further testing, it appears my CPU usage shoots up to "156%."

btw, my hardware is...

Asus m2npv-vm mobo
AMD 3200+ CPU
3 WD 500gb sata HD's
3ware 8506-8lp RAID controller
