How can I make NASLite-2 CDD the Browse/Preferred Master?

I have some software that allows me to make hd Images of my PC's and save them to a network drive but without a Browse/Preferred Master they cannot see the drive and I can't talk to them via the IP address.

It works fine with Samba and I tried FreeNAS and it does work with that product as well.

But not with NASLite-2 CDD.

I could not find how to do in in the manual any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

You can't. It looks like the option has been removed from V2

If your running windows you could edit your HOST file to add the NASLite computer. Might work?
It located under windows/system32/drivers/etc file is "host" no extensions
Open in word pad and add IP and Name after the local entry eg:

192.168.0.15 NASLite-2

I sure hope it gets added back in or as a switch or something.

The problem is the software I'm running is not windows biased and there is no way to add in a entry to point to NASLite-2 CDD box.

I had assumed that since it was Samba biased it would automatically be setup as the browse master, or at least have a switch. (Though the preferred method would be either to let you put in the value, or have predefined values to pick from. Like some of the menu choices, as this would allow those who desire to turn it off to be able to).

--

Normal settings for a server running samba:

domain master = Yes
local master = Yes
preferred master = Yes
os level = 65

--

This is how it is normally done since the workgroup sees a NT server and the windows clients assume it is the browse master.

The only time this way (set off) would be good is if you had a NT (or better) server on the network that took over at the browse master, but in that environment NASLite would probably not be used.

Thanks for the help

an on/off option would be great. Maybe V3?
You could set up a V1 NASLite, as it will become the master browser.

Well it looks like I have to Downgrade.

I tried NASLite 1.x but it did not work as it is v1.3 on the CD and the download (I bought a CD but it was the same v1.3 as the download).

It looks like I need NASLite+ v1.5 (Notice the "+")

I think they may want to add the Master Browser to the product matrix as that would make it easier to select the correct product.

I think if they added a way to set the Master Browser (On/Off/Level) this would be an outstanding product.

From the http://www.serverelements.com website

I should have said the NASLite v1.x Floppy Disk Utility CD-ROM

I just looked at the revision history again: I would now have to say I believe I have v1.3 since I'm running NASLite-SMB and that looks like the most current.

Or am I wrong?

There are a lot of things I like about this product Simple Setup, Remote Admin, etc. Plus a Real Local Console when needed.
