Does it matter which way I map to Disk-0?

\\NAslite-2\Disk-0

\\Naslite-2\Shares\Disk-0

I have mapped both ways and it works both ways, but I didn't know if it matters which way.

If I read things correctly I want to move files within the server i do that through the shares. Is this correct?

Yeah thats correct, always use the shares if you want to copy data within the server.

.... as long as the files are not *too* big. There are reports of files in excess of 4GB having *issues* with Windows when moving between shares - windows seems to time out and crash the move operation. It would seem that big files should be copied via direct mapping, not through shares.

You can map either way. I typically map \\Naslite-2\disk-0 for every day use. When you need to move large amounts of information that are already on the Nas then you want to do it through \\Naslite-2\Shares\Disk-0. For instance you have a 10gb file in folder A and you want to move it to folder B, both folders are within Disk-0, this is when you want to use the shares.

Otherwise when you don't use the shares, you are moving that 10gb file from the NAS to your PC then back to the NAS. Very Slow.
