Good heavens! It worked!

I found a compromise: I turned the computer off, but did not disconnect from 220V (Yes, US friends, we not only have universal health care, but also 220V!), the LED stayed on, and I assumed the motherboard/BIOS being powered by the 220V plug. I was happy to have changed the battery: it was put in/produced in 2000....
