My Linksys router assigns IP addresses to the computers on my LAN. the Linksys manual states:
"Even if you assign a static IP address to a PC, other PC's can still use DHCP's dynamic IP addressing, as long as the static IP is not within the range of the LAN IP address"

The router has an IP of 192.168.1.1, it has assigned (under the current DHCP lease) addresses 192.168.100 and 192.168.1.101 to the two XP machines on the network.

I currently have the Naslite server working with IP address 192.168.1.2, but I fear that this is within the range of addresses that my router can assign and that this will soon cause me a conflict as soon as leases expire and the DHCP server assigns new ones.

I tried to assign Naslite server the address 192.168.0.9, but it couldn't be seen on the network.

All machines have 255.255.255.0 as subnet masks and MSHOME as workgroup name.

Any suggestions on how to integrate Naslite-2 into my network with DHCP assigned addresses? Any idea what is meant by the "DHCP range of the IP assress"?

Any guidance will be most appreciated!

Thanks, Floyd

Most routers start assigning IPs at .100 by default. If you keep your static IPs betwenn .2 - .99 you should be fine. I have several static IPs on my network as well as use DHCP and it is not a problem.
