With OS X 10.4.8 using a Wireless (g or n) connection, my NFS reads from the server are very slow, however my writes to the server are very fast. Using FTP over the same connection gives great results both ways. Wired connections are very fast over NFS in both directions. It seems that all the research I do leads to issues relating to slow NFS write performance, but my experience is just the opposite. I am using a cheap gigabit NIC: RTL8169. I have an Intel 1000 GT on order, but I don't know if that will help. Any ideas??? I don't want to use SMB due to the file name restrictions.

After reading this post on the Infrant site: http://www.infrant.com/forum/viewtopic. ... hlight=nfs I started doing some more research and playing around with mount_nfs. Setting the wsize and rsize to 1024 does help, but around 3am I figured out that forcing the NFS mount to use TCP instead of the default UDP solves the problem completely. If you are having a similar problem, open up the terminal and try this:

mount_nfs -T server:/mount ~/somefolder

~/somefolder must aready exist and the mount will be accessible there and very fast. The -T forces TCP.

You can unmount by:

umount ~/somefolder

I wrote some simple applescripts to mount and unmount for me and everything is working perfectly. Very fast in both directions using wireless N.

I just installed a INTEL PRO 1000 GT PCI-FETH GETH RJ45 ( PWLA8391GT ) NIC ($30) and all of my problems went away. I no longer need to set my ACK=0 or force NFS connections over TCP. UDP is now working great and my transfer speeds are consistently 50% better than before. I am now getting ~9MB/s wireless and ~30MB/s wired.

If you are looking for an adapter that smokes with NasLite, search Amazon for: B00030DEQE to find this adapter.
