Sorry;this is profoundly elementary but exactly how do you move files between drives in 'Shares' without invoking the main computer. If I open a share, I have one window so...............how do I move the file! Sorry!!

Hi jeffjohn,

Navigate to the shares so that you can see each drive, Simply right click on each drive and do create shortcut. it will offer to place it on the desktop do this. do this for each drive u wish to share. then all you do is double click on each short cut to open each share. then to do cut and then paste in to the other open share.

Hi,

Correct, the files will move over on the nas and not use the network.

i have 4 HD's in a Nas box all are about half full - all i am trying to do at the moment is set shares up - i am failing miserably - as i said earlier the instructions above seem claer but i cannot get it to work

its not that copying files falls over in shares - i have no shares as i cannot seem to get it working

Stop there. you cant perform what you want n Vista you get a message saying thee is not enough space. you can do this with XP.

In XP you would navigate to my network places drill down on the nas until u hit the shares folder open this and make a short cut of each drive.
these shortcuts will be on your desktop. open each shortcut then copy the files between the shares.
