Right following my previous posts and your help i have setup naslite all ok and before i actually start transfering data to it if anyone can answer these i would be very grateful, thanks.

-Once Naslite is running and all going well, can i easierly add another HD ? ie i wont have to redo all config setup and the existing drives will be fine, and not have there data touched? Reason being i have a 200gb drive here with data on, i plan on transfering data to Computer (via usb enclosure) and then to Nasbox now (currently 2x160gb drives setup) and then after data moved i can then format and add the 200gb also to Nasbox? But obviously dont want to lose the data etc on the 2x160gb drives, if you understand my meaning.

-Also i am running Nasbox as previously said on my was PC which is a fairly fast.powerful 64bit system. I am planning in month or so to sell those parts and rebuild naslite box with older specs and parts, Ebay for old slower systems. BUT if i do that can the nasbox be rebuilt and setup with the "same" drives without them being formatted? Dont want to setup nasbox now and fill it 600gb of storage and then when rebuild box with new CPU/Mainboard have to wipe those drives to reuse box, ie can i just build box, moves drives to new box and setup existing data?

-Finally regards naslite and data security. How safe is my data on nasbox in event of problems? The data that will be on the box will not be "critical" but i would clearly rather not lose data (photos / mp3s mainly) and in event of a hardware failure (for example mainboard died, or one of drives died) can the data be saved or like previous question can drives etc be added to another box and data recovered?

Sorry all questions, but a little worried that with naslite running a linux OS and using an unsual (well to me it is) file system that i wont be able to recover data in event of any god-forbid probelms? Reason being if the setup and drives was a windows OS etc i know i could take drives out in event of hardware failure and plug them into a friends PC and get the data off etc, but as its all alien to me paranoid that in event problems say 6mths down line that i wont have anyway of recovering data. Also as my setup involves 4 sata drives across 2 different controllers how does that effect any later problems? or does Naslite not see the arrays and use drives as individual drives only?

Ok thanks all again for help....

Adding more hard drives won't affect the existing drives at all. The data will be safe.

Changing hardware will also not affect the data. In fact some people use removable trays and move the hard drive from one machine to another.

One thing that may happen though is the drives will be renumbered. The drive labelled Disk-1 before adding a new drive may change to Disk-2 after adding a new drive. Depends on what interface the new drive is added on. Data will still be there, just the drive label may change.

Your data on NASLite is as safe as your data on a PC or MAC. If a drive dies you may not be able to get your data back, so a backup procedure for data you don't want to lose is in order.

NASLite will see your drives as individual drives unless your SATA controllers support hardware RAID.
