I am having problems pinging another computer on my network. All the connection settings should work for what I set them to.

IP: 192.168.1.111
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (My linksys Router)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

The rest of my network is all on DHCP but that should not conflit with a static IP address that is not being used. I checked all my hardware and even took it to my office to try and a CISCO router I have been working on.

What am I missing?

Are you running a personal firewall on the computer you are trying to ping? What are the ip settings on the target system? Perhaps you could run an "ipconfig /all " on that system and post the results.

Now - whilst I agree that there should not be an ip conflict as long as the address you have chosen is not in use (and also doubt that this the cause of your problem), I would like to caution you on the inadviseability of setting a host to a static ip address that is within the DHCP lease pool of your DHCP server.

There is nothing to prevent the DHCP server from offering that address at some time and causing a problem, so why risk it - use a static address below 192.168.1.100 - you can set it to anything other than 192.168.1.1.
