Hi

I currently have a Naslite box setup with an Intel 6 port SATA Raid controller and 4 x 320gb discs. I want to add another 2 x 320GB discs to the raid set as I am running out of space :D

The controller supports online volume expansion so adding the discs and increasing the Raid set size is not an issue. I assume however that I will need to increase the size of the Naslite partitions on the volume to take advantage of the increased capacity.

Does anybody have any suggestions/experience in doing this? Ideally I do not want to have to back up all of the data and then restore it again. I assume that I will need to boot the system up with some Linux Live disc and then run some sort of application to increase the partition size.

Suggestions anyone :?:

Regards

JohnB

The expansion of the partition cannot be done through NASLite currently.

I posted a similar question a couple of months back...

I believe the best way to do it is to:

1) Backup your array content (as it is always recommended :) )
2) Expand the array using the RAID BIOS util
3) Boot the NASlite box with a linux cd and use the linux utils to expand the partition to cover the additional storage.

Any more detailed directions on how to expand the partition would be greatly appriciated :)

I'll reply to my own post then ;) I downloaded GParted:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/index.php

As my NASLite machine wont boot from USB and I did not have a CD-reader installed I had to temporary install one to boot the GParted LiveCD. Having done so the actual program is very straightforward, very much like Partition Magic in Windows. Once the partition was expanded to include the free space, NASLite was now able to see the new expanded partition :)
