The move to isolinux was necessary in order to accommodate the increased size of NASLite-2 while preserving independence of boot hardware. This approach works well on most machines. In some cases however, due to BIOS deficiencies, isolinux may fail to boot properly. Take a look at the following documentation for further details: http://syslinux.zytor.com/iso.php

BAMMMM! That did it!
Thanks, Tony

Now if Naslite only had paswords, even if it one one master password everyone needed to access the box (kinda like file sharing on ole windows 98).

I am having what appears to be the same problem booting from my CD image. I have created a bootable CD and just a data CD by double clicking on the downloaded file. During bootup the NAS server CD spins but all I see is the dash on my monitor. I am not as techie as I thought so I need more step by step of how to fix this. the isolinux info on the recommended web page is greek to me!

Help! :? :?

Hello Dean,

How exactly did you create the CD-ROM? If you did not “image” the ISO onto the CD then it will not boot.

I first saved my download to my desktop. Double clicing on SEI-N@-CDD launces my roxio 5 easy CD creator. Default mode used is "data disk, disk at once, ISO9660 file system". I have tried using the "create a bootable disk" capability of Roxio, with all other settings the same but that does not seem to work either. When you say "create an image" of the file should I be doing some else?

Thanks Tony

I've never used Roxio, but a quick search on Google indicates that you have a “Record CD from CD Image” option. That is what you need to use. Check the Roxio help for details, but that should get you going…

After you burn the image to disk, what do you see on the disk?

That's correct. Is your PC properly set to boot from a CD? That is a BIOS setting, so make sure everything there is in order.

In my bios (which is Phoenix/dell A06) I have set the boot sequence to;

1) CD-ROM
2) removeable media
3)hard drive

I have the CD-ROM settings to "auto" in the advanced section of my bios.

When I start the computer with no CD in the drive I get a message "no operating system found", so it appears to be looking properly at the CD-ROM drive for some boot instructions.

Hm,

Well, it could be a bad disk, a bad download, or a bad burn. Are you trying to boot on the same pc that you burned the ISO or on a different one?

Here are some things to try:

    1. Try booting on the same pc (same drive) where the ISO was burned. If it boots, then the problem is the NAS pc. Else, the problem is the disk.

    2. Burn the ISO at the slowest speed possible and try again. Try a different brand disk if unsuccessful.

    3. Remove all other drives from the NAS pc, leaving only the CD-ROM drive before boot and try booting. Make sure the jumpers are properly set to ensure the CD is recognized and properly identified by the BIOS.

When I load the ISO in PC I did the burn on, the disk auto-runs. It opens an internet explorer window showing a NAS lite 2 "about" screen with links to the PDFs' on the disk and to the software license. I can open the PDFs for the manuals but there is no link to get to the start screen for loading the NAS software.

OK..

I followed your suggestions. I could boot the PC I burned the image on. I checked the CD-ROM jumpers and cabling to make sure "master" is set. When I disconnect the drives and remove the RAID controller I bought it boots! I bought a Promise Fasttrack TX2300 RAID controller.

So how do I make it boot with the RAID controller? :?
