Here's a weird one. I was copying some large DVD files (~7GB) from a Windows XP machine to a NASLITE 2.01 box with 3 IDE drives and one SATA drive. I started by copying one file to the SATA drive. The time to completion was estimated to be 80 minutes. I thought this was a little long. So I decided to copy another file of the same size to an IDE drive (while the SATA transfer was still happening) and now all of the sudden the transfer to the SATA drive dropped to around 7 minutes and it was the same for the transfer to the IDE drive. I also tried copying one file to the IDE drive and it again said it would take about 80 minutes (I let it go for a while and this seemed to be accurate as it was going very slowly). I then started another transfer to the SATA drive and again the speed seemed to increase and time to completion dropped to 7 minutes. Can anyone explain why the speed would increase making two simultaneous transfers as opposed to one?

I noticed the same SATA/IDE transfer speed problem (67 to 80 minute copies) - but I never tried to start copying a second file ... it seemed that my Netgear GA311 was auto-negotiating down to 10mb (I think) instead of up to "1000". I removed the Netgear GA311 and used the MoBo's own Ethernet LAN port and the transfer speeds stabilized at 100mb performance. So I have now disabled my gigabit capability on v2.01.

Thanks for the info. I'm also running gigabit NIC's through a Netgear gigabit switch. Maybe I'll go back to the onboard NIC's too and see if I get a more consistent throughput.

I noticed this when transfering a movie from a PC to NASLite 2.0. It said 75minutes and was going very slow. I switched to FTP and it transferred in 6 minutes.

I am also using a GA311 but on a 100mbit switch.
I get consistent 7MB/s writes from a WinXP PC to the NASLite box IDE drive, which translates to about 10mins for a 5Gb file. When concurrently trying to copy another file to another disk on NASlite I get slightly better network saturation with both copies.

Have you tried using the WinXP task manager Network tab where it shows the network activity? It should show clearly what happens when the first copy starts and progresses and what happens when the second copy kicks in.
