Situation: NASLite v2.01 reports that SMART is available but not enabled in 3 drives (1) Seagate < 1 year old, (2) Western Digital (each 1 year old).
---
Test conclusions:
1. NASLite v1.5 says SMART is available and enabled on all 3 drives - All tests passed.
2. Seagate Diagnostic Tools says SMART is available and enabled - All tests passed.
3. NASLite v2.01 says SMART is available but not enabled.
4. Two different MoBo's show SMART enabled for all drives.
---
Questions:
1. Why is NASLite v2.01 not seeing SMART enabled?
2. Seagate TechSupport questions if the Linux Kernel being used is "recognizing" the drives's SMART flag.
3. If for any reason SMART is available, but not enabled, why is NASLite v2 not able to enable SMART as a Tool Option?
---
Thanks.

Try with ACPI disabled in the BIOS.

Disabling ACPI had no affect on SMART.

I have found a way to get v2 to see (enable) SMART from the 4 hard drives that report SMART available, but not enabled.
---
These 4 drives were in 2 NASLite+ v1.5 servers for about 8 months. They were being used to stream DVD video files, and SMART was disabled in v1.5 to avoid any interference from SMART tests. I simply upgraded to v2 - and for the record, did not re-enable SMART on these drives before the upgrade (I don't know if this means anything or not). After the upgrade each of these drives showed SMART available/SMART disabled in v2. I rolled back to v1.5 and enabled SMART, and then rolled forward to v2, but that had no affect - still no SMART.
---
At the suggestion of Seagate TechSupport I downloaded their "Seatools" diagnostic CD .iso, and ran the full extended tests on one of the Seagate drives (I had to pull each drive out the server and install them in a desktop). The diagnostics showed SMART was indeed enabled and no drive errors (the drives ship that way, and cannot be switched on or off). When the drive was re-installed in the v2 NASLite server it was reporting SMART data! I then downloaded and ran diagnostics for my Maxtor and Western Digital drives - same result - SMART was seen by v2.
---
Just FYI ... I wanted to close the case.
