I'll be setting up a NASLite server soon, probably using the CD-ROM / floppy configuration. It looks simple enough, but I can't figure out one thing: What happens if the floppy goes bad? Is there any way to reconstruct the configuration, or am I screwed without a backup of the configuration file?

What prevents you from saving the configuration to a second floppy? Besides, configuring a NASLite server is a 1 minute process. In the time it takes to find the backup floppy, you'll have a new one made.

Well, nothing, I guess... but I would lose it, or the backup would go bad, etc.

I guess my question was really addressed by your second point. From what you said, I assume that if I define a disk the same as I originally defined it, everything will be back to normal. I plan on having a couple raid 1 pairs (4 disks, 2 mirrored pairs), so I'll probably just write what they are on the drive itself - I'm a big follower of the KISS principle.

That's actually the answer I was hoping to find. Thanks.

If properly cared for, what are the chances of data on two different floppies going bad at the same time? Slim at best...

The point is that if you want to have a configuration backup, making a second, third etc. floppy disk and storing it should do the trick most effectively.

Just my opinion
