Any update on this? Microsoft Home Server has been getting good reviews and I think a music/media server is really the only advantage I see over NASLite at this time.

If I'm not mistaken, WHS is based on 2003 server and just as prone to mallware and viral problems. Would you really store your files in such a cesspool? Wait until it becomes more prolific and watch the WHS attacks begin. Something to think about, ain't it?

I really like to know if this iTunes server is still in development.
If not, does anybody know a good working iTunes server/nas drive.
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Tanks Tony and Raplh for a superb, stableproduct.

If this is not in the developers plans at all, please tell here, so I can set up another solution for this instead of waiting/wondering :-)

One important feature would be that I could update the playlists on the nas-daap-itunes-server. From any computer.

Instead of todays solution where I have a computer turned on, Running itunes 24/7, and I have to use that as a "master" and keep playlists updated using remote desktop...that is not easy to explain to kids and wife.

My setup is a central NAS with backup of data and videos, snd all my mp3's. Old laptops/pcs placed around the house for playing music and surfing.

The best I have come up with so far is Firefly as an iTunes Server.

I have it running on a Linksys NSLU2, although I am still tuning it to work with my 45,000 song collection.

It certainly screams along with 15,000 songs no problem.

Also it is ported to run on everything, I am just waiting for a version that runs on my toaster :-)

Small, light, solid, ideal to put on a NASLite :-)

I would be interested in a i-tunes server. Even if I had to pay for an upgrade. It would be worth it.

iTunes server would be one of the primary reasons I'm currently building a NAS server, so having iTunes functionality built in means I don't need to have a computer running. It'd be great if AppleTV can just stream/sync content from NASLite.

Perhaps I am missing something here, Why not just MP3 your files and put them on a NL box so you don't have to deal with all the content protection BS companies like Apple and MicroShaft are trying to shove down our throats for the record and movie industry? Guess I just don't get it at all. If I bought it, it's mine to listen to when and where I "F"ing well want. If we don't support these companies in their endeavors then they will have to come around. Sorry but I have just been dealing with this in the past week with a few songs bought on line and I am pissed!

I agree with you on the protection hassles but this has nothing to do with why I want a music server on my NAS. My Nas is on all the time but cannot serve up music, so I have to turn on another computer which connects to the Nas and then serves music to other devices. A music server on the Nas would allow a central storage which could distribute music to my other devices.

Works just fine for me and that is for music and video. I don't get where the problem is if you don't have content protected files. I access them any way and any where I want.
