I eventually put the drive into the original NASLite 1.0 box, and it fixed it in about 20mins.

Then checked the data and it appears to be ok.

So the error may have been due to a bad IDE Cable, as I changed it on spec.

I also tested the cable by trying to load from a standalone CD and it failed to boot.

Now everything is loaded and working as it should.

So turned out to be a hardware problem after all.

I've built good number of Naslite servers both for myself and for clients. 99.9% of all problems I've had were caused by faulty hardware. The remaining .1% was stupidity on my part.

Naslite has always been pretty consistent so I rarely consider it to be the problem.

Dimension.

I have only built 2 and Version 1.0 and a 2.0. I have been very impressed. It works extremely well and it is very efficient, so I wanted to give follow-up as the fault was not the NASLite's. I think that the curve ball in my case came after a power problem, so I wasn't looking for a hardware problem. I also had very little knowledge about the repair techniques used by linux type of systems.

However, in Windows if the drive has a major corruption, then 9 times of 10 it's all over.

So I am extra pleased, as it all back and it forced me to increase my understanding of these products.

Cheers Art
