I dust off the old kt7a raid mb to test out v2 and have ran in to a problem.
firstly i am not running as raid I just want the extra ide channels.

bios can see my drives and so can naslite but it wont mount. the HD's i am using are 100% working fine only just pulled from my other nas.

sticking the drives on the primary and secondary is fine and i can access the drives. But i am puzzled as to why i cant mount them when i can format and disk check them on the raid channel

Make sure the drives are jumpered properly. You are mounting hda and hde, so NASLite-2 is rendering the controllers properly for sure.

Yea i got the drives correct. during testing I have moved the drives around. but have always had the jumper set on master on the primary and i had another hd on the first raid channel set as master.

even if i have a 1 drive set as master on the first raid channel it still wont mount.

As far as i can see from intial boot watching the screens the drives are correct and nas sees the drive correctly as well. go to format and then set to RW then save config reboot then i have a fail, going to the hd config it say the name of the drive etc yet is unmounted.

Still testing i'll post back when i sorted this out

Some disks have a different jumper setting for single or master with a slave.

its defo not jumper related. just had a single maxor set as slave on the primary channel. and a single maxtor on the primary raid channel set as master, one detected as master in the first boot bios and the second maxtor master on the primary raid.

HD on the primary is pass and i am able to use, HD on the raid is fail.
and like i say it can be formatted , disk checked etc but remains unmounted.

This hasnt beat me yet..

Single HD on primary raid set as master

Allow the BIOS to allocate all IRQs prior to NASLite-2 booting. Do that by turning off the PnP OS option. Also disable LPT, COM, AUDIO, etc. There is definitely something goofy about the setup.

Another thing to keep in mind is to check the admin interface and make sure the formatted disks are not parked (idle) on boot. If a disk is idle, it will not be mounted.

Well I gave up in the end.

and now i am pissed off. i pulled 3 working maxtors from my current nas and put them in the k7ta board and as you can see they all failed to mount. and was never written to. as i had data on the drives all i wanted to do was see if i could use the other mb so i can use more HDs.

Plus i used two other HD's that i had, these i formatted etc but these would not mount either.

Now i rebuilt my nas and the drives I put in the other machine all fail to mount, the only one that mounts is the one that remained in the original nas.

Now i got to fix this mess.

I have the same problem.

I have a ABIT VP6 with the onboard HighPoint RAID controller. I can format and do all other maintenance on the drive, but it still does not want to mount after I save the config and reboot. I played around with the BIOS, but could not find anything else to tweak. I can attach the log if needed.

Any ideas Tony/Ralph?

Herkaun,
I knew it wasnt anything I was doing. I got three drives with data that i cant mount at all even in the original NAS and these drives where not even written to. I tested the other drives i had that also failed to mount and the only way i could get them working was to perform a format in my orignal nas. moving HD's around is somthing I wont be doing again soon. I cant believe that moving drives to another machine will cause these problems and these are new drives.

I've never tried to use onboard "software" raid controllers to drive 4 more IDE devices not in a raid configuration.

I'll do some testing this evening and give some more input.

Ralph,

The original setup was Naslite+usb v1.5 i upgraded to v2 and the whole process was problem free. all the drives where working normal only thing i done was apply the journal to each drive. machine running 100%.

I also have a Kt7A Raid only needing drives i pulled 3 of the four from the working nas and popped them in as you can read above the HD's would not mount so i got some other drives that i know to work and these would not mount.... finally give up as i tried everything.. i put the 3 drives back and these will not mount anymore.. the other two test drives i had only worked after i put them in the current nas and formatted them.

I am now trying to recover 2 x 200GB and a 1 x 80 GB of data..
but havent touched them yet i want to read a bit more before i try anything.

Ralp,

I went from V1.5(usb) to V2 with no problems. It picked up my 4 drives and everything worked perfectly. I added an old Linux drive, and thought that it would see the linux file system, but it did not see anything. I then formated it and added journalling. Everything looked fine at that point, but after the save and reboot, it still showed "FAIL" at the boot screen. On the disk management screen it showed that it did not mount.

Let me know if you need more specifics.
