Hey all.. I am not sure if this is the place to ask..

But I have 2 machines now..
1x NASLite-SMB ( v1.3 )
and
1x NASLite-2 USB

I am trying to see if there is an easier way to transfer the content from the old SMB machine to the USB machine.

When all is said and done I want to grab the content and move the old drive from the SMB machine, whipe it and put it into the USB machine as another drive for shares.. consolidating the 2 machines into one.

I am not sure how to go about transfering the old content off the SMB machine without just copying from one share to another or nfs etc.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Hi Riddler,
I believe your best bet is
1) move the disk from SMB to USB machine
2) boot USB machine. The former SMB disk should be detected.
3) move files from \\server\Shares\Disk-1 to \\server\Shares\Disk-0 (assuming disk-1 is the former SMB disk and disk-0 is the former USB disk)

Riddler,

If your happy with the files where they are just move the drives over to your USB server. only thing i'd suggest is once you have added the drives you apply the journal to each HD.. this is in the storage section of each HD.

Thanks guys.. It had occured to me to just move the drive..however I wanted to take this opportunity to whipe the drive and transfer everything to the new drive.. and use the older one as a secondary drive as its slower etc.

I am already 75% done transfering everything, since the post. Though its great to know that each version is compatible with each other.

Gaiden I am journaling the USB drive and will the SMB drive once its moved over.

I am an old linux head and journaling is huge in my book :-)
