I'm almost embarrassed to ask the question but I need help. I am trying to connect a PC chassis (MSI MB) with a Gagafast card through a D-Link gigabyte switch to a Mac Pro running OS X 10.4. I don't have any diskettes around (yeah Iknow, but haven't needed one since I dumped Windows) so all I've gotten to do is entered the software serial number. Another issue is that I do not have PCI-express and inserted the gigafast card into a PCI slot. When the mb was in another chassis I actually got the rig working in a 192.168.x.x subnet at high speed with the the Mac Pro connected directly to the gigafast card/PC.
So...
I cannot get a ping to work with or without the D-Link switch. The Mac can auto connect but since I tried both methods that is not an issue. When I try to ping all I ever get is "Network is unreachable." Yes, both ends are on the same subnet with the last set of the address varying by one.
On the Box of the Gigafast card it says it is a plug and play ICI bus card. However the manual goes on to state the drivers must be installed..go figure!
Is the installaion failing because I haven't unlocked the software? (Seems unlikely) Remember, without a floppy I can't save and reboot..is that the cause? (also seems unllikely)
I sure could use some help. I'm into the Antec P180 case and a 500gb drive and gigafast card for a pretty penny right now. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks,
Rich
