rscovell,

Post some specs of the hardware you are running.

Shutdown unneeded items in the bios, remove excess cards you have, i.e. sound etc.

I was finally able to create the USB flash drive. The 1st time I configured it as a fixed disk with a bootable partition.

My hardware config: ASUS A7V333-X mobo, 512mb mem, Maxtor HDD
I shut off all bios items not needed. Only card in system is a low end graphics pci card

Since this mobo won't boot from USB, I created the kicker floppy.

When it boots, the Caldera DR DOS finds the HDD and the USB and goes to:

NASLite+ USB boot utility V1.0

LINLD v0.97
Kernal command line
root = /dev/ram/0 rw

it then hangs.

I reconfigured the usb as a superfloppy and tried again, still hangs at same spot

Any suggestions?

thanks

Bob

In addition to gaiden's points, also take a look at APM and ACPI in the bios. Turn those off initially until you get everything sorted out. Make sure that all IRQs are uniquely assigned to the necessary hardware.

Another thing to consider is cables and connections. Make sure that all connected hardware is in working order.

RAM can also be an issue. If the RAM you are using has bad blocks, the kernel will fail to decompress and the system will simply hang.

rscovell,

when you use the kicker does it see your usb device?
I got a few kickers you can try. pm me and i'll send them over

in your second posts it looks to me like the usb is not detected.

rscovell,

I got something I would like you to look at. I am sure your MB is capable of booting from USB. plug in your usb device then go to the bios. in the bios Advanced section make sure USB function is enabled. then go to the boot menu select the ide hard drive option if you can see your usb device use the keys to move it to the top then exit that menu and again on the boot menu move ide hard drive to the top so its the first boot device.

remember you need to have made the usb device as a partition and not super floppy

When I boot from the floppy, it does find the USB drive

The screen then displays:

ASPI Disk driver for DOS
version 4.01b

1 scsi disk drive
1 Logical drive installed
ASPIDISK.SYS Installation success

Next Screen:

LINLD V0.97
Kernel command line:
root=dev/ram0 rw
can't open kernel file
