Hi

I have an intel SRCS16 6 port SATA raid controller with 4 x WD320GB drives connected to it. I set up a Raid 5 set using the setup feature in the bios of the cardand initialised the logical drive.

I am however running into a problem when booting up. With no drives connected to the raid controller I go right through and get to the admin console. I am able to run a system with normal PATA drives installed (no Raid). When I have drives connected to the Raid controller the system stops with the following on the screen

"Vendor:Megaraid Model: LD 0 RAID5 915G REV:713N
TYPE: DIRECT ACCESS ANSI SCSI REV: 02
scsi1: scanning channel 1 for logical drive
scsi1: scanning channel 2 for logical drive
scsi1: scanning channel 3 for logical drive
scsi1: scanning channel 4 [P0] for logical devices."

It then seems to stop at this point, any suggestions?

Thanks

JohnB

It could be a problem with this type of drive (ie firmware related) or a physical problem with one of the disks. Are you running the latest firmware for the RAID card?

Have you tried other drive types, if you have a spare lying around?

Also, what if you start by connecting just one drive at a time and rebooting to see if a particular drive from the 4 you have actually creates the problem?
