I just purchased NASLite2 HDD for another file server I am building. I plan on using a DFI board that has 8 SATA ports and one (2 channel) IDE. After installing I plan on removing the CD ROM so I can use 2 PATA drives along with 8 SATA drives. Other than the drive share names shifting, will this work?

Absolutely - the CD-ROM is only required for the installation process.

The CD ROM will be needed for the updates of NASLite too.

Regards.

True

But after an install or update you need to reboot to mount the drives
So you can choose to power down, disconnect the cd-rom, reconnect the drive and
power up to finish the install and mount the drives
