Can anyone suggest where I can find information on how to set up my Naslite Server so that I can access it via the www.

Thanks and Regards

To make the files PUBLIC!,

You'll have to assign a gateway in your Naslite configuration and forward the port through your firewall or whatever you are using for access. You should think twice before doing that since your files WILL BE PUBLICLY available online.

I have the files encrypted using Trucrypt and I believe this is system is provides a robust security encryption.

Are there port numbers which i should not use or do I have total freedom?

thanks for your help on this .

Agreed! THE VPN router is the way to go. I didn't even have to buy a new router as I flashed the firmware of my Linksys WRT54G with dd-wrt and I now have easy access with my laptop from anywhere. Not so easy, however, if you want to have access from other peoples' computers or an internet cafe as you need an appropriate VPN client installed. With other computers you can always create a new VPN connection (the PPTP client is built into XP and presumably Vista) but perhaps not something you'd be able to do in an internet cafe. But if you just want to be able to access the NAS server when on the road the VPN router works fine.

Apologies for the delay in getting back on this, I have only just realized there has been a couple of responses.

The VPN router seems like a good idea, I will investigate.

Thanks again

VPN? go for Draytek Vigors (some models support it) unless you reflash and configure a WRT54-style router with DDWRT.

Been using the Drayteks for some years, good value VPN servers.
