when I attempt to login in to the telnet administration console I get the following error and am unable to log in. All I really want to do is reboot the nas but I need to log in first.

Code:
[ nas ] - Administration Utility - NASLite-2 USB v2.06 08-2007

 INVALID LOGIN

An instance of the NASLite-2 USB Administration Utility is already in use. In order to avoid conflicts, opening multiple instances of the NASLite-2 USB Administration Utility is not permitted.

I am fairly sure that there is not anothetr instance of the admin utility running so how do I clear the error to log in to reboot the nas??

OK so first off let me confess... I have run (and unlocked) two copies of NAS USB server.... Now that the confession is done its time for the justification... I am in the process of replacing my NAS <insert long sorry hardware story here> and the only way that I have been able to transfer the data from the old hardware to the new is to have both running at the same time. But now I have the above error when I attempt to log in. all that I really need to do is reboot the nas...... and then turn off the old (and dying) hardware, and then my consicence is clear again with only running one version.

Ahhhh.... RTFM on in this case the forum and you can solve your own problem.... I remember seeing something about new users to reboot and shutdown the server..... Search the forum for this post http://www.serverelements.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2066&highlight=add+admin+user+aliases&sid=01f7a93e6e3d87f280ac6f7e8f4e031c and although I did not find it that clear (sorry to the posters) all I needed to do was go to the telnet prompt and rather than attempt to login with the admin username just enter "reboot" (minus the quotes) and the admin password and ta-da a reboot cures all.

Yahoo... old nas powered down (back legal again) and new nas with shiney 500GB disk all ready to server files to media portal and xbox media center again..... and most important wife hapoopy that all the photos of the kids are available (and not lost) again

Thnaks to server elements and NASLite!

PS Anyone have clues on the error anyway?

If you have a configuration console open for a given NASLite-2 instance, opening a second console for the same instance of NASLite-2 will result in the message that you see. The reason is that when configuring the server, it is not a good idea to do so simultaneously from multiple locations. It's a safety feature that is designed to prevent inadvertent configuration errors.

To put you at ease, it has nothing to do with running multiple copies of the software.
