NASLite Network Attached Storage

At the place where I work, we've just built/installed our first NASLite-2 server. Just recently we noticed some strange behavior, that came and past, from the server. I checked the log and noticed two entries that have me concerned.

Jul 21 10:38:04 user.debug kernel: WARNING: USB Mass Storage data integrity not assured

and


# Jul 22 10:39:02 user.warn kernel: 3w-xxxx: scsi1: AEN: WARNING: SMART threshold exceeded: Port #0.
# Jul 23 10:41:05 user.warn kernel: 3w-xxxx: scsi1: AEN: WARNING: SMART threshold exceeded: Port #0.

We are running: NASLite-2 USB v2.04 off of a usb thumm drive
and the system specs are:
ASUS M2NPV-VM Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
512Ram
4xWestern Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

Lastly, we are working with Raid10- SMART mode deactivated. Are these entries normal? If not what could be the issue?

The first message is normal. Tony has a post on this as it relates to external USB drives (http://www.serverelements.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1869), but if you are not using USB drives (except the stick you are booting from) this messages is not a problem (no critical data is stored on the USB stick).

As to the SMART threshold: Not 100% sure as to the cause or severity of the problem, but I would run an extended diagnostic (telnet, login, and use Menu 3 (Storage Config), select your disk(s), and run option 4) -- this will take possibly a few hours. Look at the results and see what threshold might be exceeded in the "Server Storage" info screens under SMART attributes.
