I do not own a CD-rom and I want to upgrade to the latest NASLite-M2. Is that even possible from a Mac not having a CD-rom?

If possible any steps how to do this?

I have mine installed on an USB memory stick!

Thanks

NASLite renders the hardware on boot and there is no need to rebuild the USB stick.

If you are going to be upgrading to the latest version of the OS then simply go to a friends house that has a real computer and boot the CDROM on that and follow the directions. Make sure that the CDROM is the first boot device and that the USB stick is in a port that the OS will render.

Without knowing what previous version of M2 your running, this may or may not work.

On your Mac, mount the ISO image, plug your usb key in.

Replace the naslite.0x files on your usb key with the corresponding files from the ISO image in the ISOLINUX folder. Delete the old ones first from the usb key.

If the version of M2 your currently running, the partition will be too small on the usb key and won't have enough room for the new files.

Ralph, thanks I will try that option.

Mike, well... I run both win7, and several versions of Mac OSX, I could also get an Unbutu version running on the same machine. I think "real computer" will have problems with that ;) But there is one thing I can't do and that is to boot a NASLite even if it sits on a SATA drive or USB stick (I have tried). Not many use CDROM any longer as hard drives are cheap and large. My backup PC died last year, most friends here using Mac…

I think there should be an development about the install process with an option of not using a CDROM, that would be great!

Thanks

Tony and I were discussing writing a OS X/Windows application to do USB installs. At some point, we're gonna see cdrom drives being offered less and less on laptops/desktops.
This would also simplify the installation process immensely for USB installs.

Ralph,

Sounds great! look forward for such development, using Mac for NL install is pita.

I did find a friend with a PC and CDROM drive so I am good, but need to get a new raid card or new motherboard with more SATA ports…

Thanks
