I'll post machine spec's shortly, but to answer your other questions:

Bios flash : Not yet. I will check for an update, and flash.
Turning off all on-board devices : Done a long time ago. Everything except Mobo NIC is disabled.
NIC card: Disabled (not removed yet) as new software recognises Mobo NIC.

Flash the BIOS first.

Default the BIOS by pulling the battery or using the reset jumper. Next, go in and reset all the devices to off leaving only those needed on. I have seen in the past where the BIOS becomes corrupted and needs to be reset to fix the odd issues one experiences.

About to flash the BIOS with the latest version.

In the meantime, that information you were after;

Mobo: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/PH61AP35_ ... v=Overview
HighPoint RocketRaid 1740 (x2): http://www.highpoint-tech.cn/USA/rr1720.htm
(looks like I might need to flash these cards as well): http://www.highpoint-tech.cn/USA/bios_rr1720.htm (not sure which version though)
PSU: 1500W Thermaltake Toughpower
NIC Card: Now removed

I will report back once I've had success flashing the bios (following your instructions) and rebooting the machine back to NASLite and run for 24 hours. Any IRQ will show up well before that time is up.

Perhaps this will be all that is needed? *fingers crossed*

Cheers, Mark.

BIOS flashed. I think. Everything worked with no errors or problems. I will check between the two klogd's (one previously posted vs current server logs over HTTP) to see if I can see any changes. (Edit; "no changes that I can see.")

I'll run for 24 hours and report back.

I really want it to be as simple as a hardware issue!

Mark.

First IRQ since Bios upgrade. The first IRQ always results in a bandwidth drop.

I think I should flash the Raid Card as well;

HighPoint RocketRaid 1740 (x2): http://www.highpoint-tech.cn/USA/rr1720.htm
(looks like I might need to flash these cards as well): http://www.highpoint-tech.cn/USA/bios_rr1720.htm (not sure which version though)

Would I flash with the Linux version?

Looks like an IRQ issue to me with your NIC card.

Interesting development. I would not have figured that out from the logs. Thank you.

So my mobo NIC may not be fully supported afterall? Even with the new update?

So my best bet would be putting the PCI NIC card back in?

What I think I should do is leave the device running for a few more days to see if I get anymore IRQ's. It's usually 16, 18 & 19 in that order. I think I should rule out any other issues first. Maybe the update has fixed those or maybe not.

I'll report back then, and then try putting the PCI NIC card back in and seeing what that does.

In the meantime, I will continue to monitor this thread for any new comments and suggestions.

I really appreciate all your help in getting this resolved!

Cheers, Mark.

Okay so I have 2x IRQ in 24 hours of up time. Bandwidth is now around 26kbps.

Looks like the 4 port raid card and the mobo NIC share the same IRQ. I googled this and it's normal apparently.

I assume that I won't get another IRQ (usually 19), because I think that was the PCI NIC in conflicted with the second 4 port raid card.

I'll keep it up and running for another 24 hours to test this theory.

Move to a NIC in one of the slots.

You could also go with a cheap piece of server hardware off of Ebay.

I understand what you are saying but no; I've already spent enough on this.

I'm pretty disappointed to discover that the mobo is not compatible with the software and that I was assured it would be fixed if I upgraded.

I'm going to move to Freenas and see if that works with the hardware.

I just need to find out if NASLite drives will be supported in Freenas.

Thank you for your help anyway. It is appreciated.

Regards, Mark.

What did you exactly try and do to resolve the IRQ issue with the NIC and the SATA ports on 16?

IRQ conflicts are your hardware, plain and simple.

Looks like the 4 port raid card and the mobo NIC share the same IRQ. I googled this and it's normal apparently.

Normal? Maybe the motherboard requires some crazy driver for windows then to operate like that. But transferring data from that SATA port along that NIC is not gonna work out well.

I don't know how to resolve the IRQ issues. I'm not that computer savvy so I have to rely on software to provide a fix.

I have an old 10/100 NIC motherboard that I used prior to upgrading to this new Gigabit motherboard. The reason for the upgrade was to ensure suitable bandwidth for streaming.

I'd rather an old stable 10/100 system than a Gigabit that falls down within a few hours.

Software *can't* fix IRQ conflicts.

I'm assuming your using a raid card and have your drives attached to that, shut off any onboard SATA ports not in use.
