OK, so I downloaded the iso file and its good to go. I used Unetbootin to transfer the ISO file to a USB drive instead of a CD-ROM. Can I boot directly from the USB? I set up my NAS without any input drives other than flash or usb. Did I do something wrong in Unet?

Actually you need to let NL do the install to the USB drive for you. Insert the USB key in the machine and boot the CDROM in target pc. Select install to a USB drive. Simple as that. This assumes that the machine you are trying to install and boot from will see and boot from a USB device. Also not all USB keys are created equal and some will not boot. I have had to create a CDROM kicker and then boot from the key after. PITA! A new board is easier in such a case. Follow the directions and you should be golden.

Not all usb drives are the same. Some will boot and others won't. Try a different one or go the CF card route.
