Can anyone tell me how can I upgrade my NASLite-M2 x64 from v.1.64 to my just bought v.1.66 , without loosing anything (config & so on) from previous install ??
Is there anything specific in NASLite menu to do this ??

Best regards - Migi.

Yes, it is really easy, I've just done it in 2 minutes :) This info is from memory (a bad one!) so things may not be in order but the idea is correct.

Burn the ISO to a CD.
If you have NL installed on a USB stick you can update on any computer. If NL is on one of the hard drives, then you have to do it on the server.
Boot from the CD you have burned.
Choose the drive you have NL installed (you'll see, no errors possible as it tells you that you have the config file)
Choose (can't recall the option number) update NL
Wait patiently and it is done.

v.1.65 to v.166

Here's the process I just performed - seemed to work but didn't actually do it.

  • Downloaded .iso
  • Created Boot CD
  • Booted from CD
  • Selected (i) - Install
  • Selected 1 (changed target) and picked boot media.
  • Selected 3 Update
  • Restarted

Seemed to work but upon restart the OS version still reports v1.65.

What did I miss?

1 - are you sure you used the new version

2 - the version number is in one of the files on the disc - has it been updated on the disc

I can't locate a non-binary file with the version number in it among the files on the CD or the resulting NASLite install.

Perhaps I am simply looking in the wrong place or using the wrong tools.

I'll experiment further but any additional insight is welcome.

Problem solved. Here's what I did (and wrong) - potentially useful tip for those who follow.

1 - I didn't know there was an "Update" option until I was in the install ready to install a shiny new fresh version of 1.66 onto a fresh flash drive.

2 - I went ahead and installed a "blank" new install on the new flash drive.

3 - I used the Update option and it went away and updated the files on the new flash drive (presumably replacing what was already there).

4 - I replaced the flash drive with the old (1.65) one. (DID NOT REBOOT = ERROR).

5 - I cycled through the target drives until the flash drive showed up again (showed correct size which was conveniently different from the new flash drive so I figured it had seen the new media.

6 - Used the update option and it did it's thing. At this point I assumed it had been updated -- IT HAD NOT.

Fix: Boot from the install CD with the Target (old install drive) already in place and execute the update (see prior post for install steps). Having done this the system was correctly updated and shows v1.66.

I'm a little embarrassed about this but figure this is the sort of error someone else might make.

Cheers ... Phil Usher

Why would you be embarrassed about that kind of mistake? We have all made them.

I am rusty as well and likely to make the same kind of mistake. I need to upgrade since I am still running the Beta of the past release still. Never got around to updating since it worked just fine for me as was.
