Fans all running at full throttle once the Kernal boots. when my server begins to boot it is quiet and the fans are controlled down to lower speeds but once up only full blast

the logs say:

not sure what all that means

I am not sure if APM is turned on nor am I sure about ACPI in bios but Naslite says:

CPI Cooling Devices:
DEVICE TYPE CURRENT STATE MAXIMUM STATE STATUS

1 Processor 0 7

NASLite M2 2.6.30.3.CORE3 running on a IBM 306 8836 xSeries eServer

I have found there to be no ACPI or APM control in Bios

I guess a Windowz server might be the only way to fix this fan control issue!

Or a real Linux solution

The approach which I took was to do away with the processor fan and use passive cooling instead. I fitted a NINJA mini Revision B cooler without the fan. Although it says "mini" on the box, it's a monster so you will need to check that you have space in the case. The other consideration is whether your processor can cope with passive cooling. Mine is an Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz which is not overly hot. The power supply fan (ModXStream Pro 500W) does provide air flow over the passive cooler.

Runs cool and quiet.

thank you so much for your reply. My server is a 2U rack unit so this is not even a possibility
