I have an external usb 1TB drive. Using it to mirror the main drive to (As a backup).

So what i want to do is swap another 1 TB usb drive (the same exact one if i can find it) every week, so i can store one of drives in the car and keep my data fireproof.

So the question is. Can i just hot swap it? Or do i need to shut down and reboot?

If i shut down and reboot each time, do i need to reset up the mirror each time? Or will it stick?

Let me know the best way to do this.

As far I know NASLite doesn't support hot-swap so you should reboot your nas after connecting the external drive

Hi,

You mirror settings will stick (as well as all your other settings) if you have saved your settings when you have changed them.

Actually ... the mirror settings is not saved as part of the configuration file (unless something changed in the last few minor versions, which I doubt). Instead, the configuration settings are stored in a simple file located on the destination drive. This means, the FIRST time you swap to a new external drive you have to re-program the settings. Once the file is saved to that drive it will be used correctly.

I do also, however, recommend you shutdown, swap drives, then re-boot.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that. I'll go to bed being more intelligent tonight thanks to you

Can the file be "seen" or modified or copied manually ?

I think ... yes. But I cannot answer the last question for sure until the next time I reboot my Win64Pro-SP1 PC  (just came out of hibernation.)
