I'm a newbie to naslite, and NAS in general - though I've worked on linux based home projects in the past, saw this and thought I'd give it a go. Here's the specs etc

System

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz (64bit)
2 GB RAM
Onboard Realtek 10/100 Lan
500GB Western Digital HDD
USB Stick booting Naslite M2 x64 v1.64

Transfering Music collection to Media Directory either via FTP or SMB from a Win7 machine, it will stop partway through the transfer and state it can't connect to it.

Looking at the syslog shows;

It doesn't cause the system to become unresponsive, as it can still be access via telnet and is still responsive via KVM. Have run scans and checks on the HDD, and no issues reported.

Anyone got any ideas or guidance ?

Gav

Edit: Regardless of choosing the option to reboot / shutdown, the system doesn't actually do anything, other than turn the screen black.

sure this has been discussed before - think the problem is the windows machine - search may throw something up

Welcome to the forum, Gav.

Are you sure that's a 64bit CPU ? I am puzzled because of the "3.06" clock rate and the (lowly) 10/100 on-board LAN ... if you can, list the sSpec # or more detail on the processor. I would try a 32-bit version of NL.

Win7 could still be the cause as indicated by tony a.

Gav,

Like you, I am a newbie when it comes to Naslite. I am running a 32 bit install on a Dell Poweredge server of similar vintage and booting from a flash drive. Like you, I experienced this issue; caused by using Win 7 to copy my music collection -- the first time anyway. As it turned out, all I had to do to reproduce the problem consistently was move any large volume of data or any single file > 4GB.

The main clue here is the "Unable to handle kernel paging request at" line in the log.

I ran memtest on the server and tracked the problem down to a bad RAM stick in slot 3. Replaced it, and presto. I've moved my 317GB music archive 3 times now without issue, and a host of Linux DVD ISO's one at a time as well, and will probably do it all a few more times just to be certain the problem is solved for good.

If it comes back I'll holler.

Jim

Hey guys, thanks for the replys

In response to the is it 64 bit or not, I spec'd the processor number on the net and direct from intel suggested it was a 64 bit processor, I'll try to find the spec again, I know i wrote it down somewhere it's just not to hand.

The system came about from some spare parts I had lying around, the only thing I was lacking was some memory for it so bought some. Will grab memtest and run it on them to see if any issues.

Update:

Ran memtest and as suggested, something's not quite right with the memory. both sticks test ok seperately, but throw errors up when in together which is weird. Will look at sorting them when I get chance.

As for the processor - http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27462

Thanks, Gav. Continue pursuing that memory issue ... apparently the most likely source of trouble.

Indeed, 64bit on the CPU. Is the motherboard fully 64bit also (BIOS support and chipset) ? Make/Model/BIOS Revision ?

Motherboard - Supports Pentium 4 5xx and 6xx series, not sure as to the bios revision atm as it's no memory lol - returning to corsair via RMA
