I'm have been using NASLite-M2 for some years now. Currently running v1.63.
System is based on a VIA Epia LN10000EG which has 2 onboard SATA connectors.
Until now I have had a 500Gb and a 1Tb hard disk installed. All worked OK.
Now I have replaced the 500Gb with a 2Tb hard disk (Samsung Spinpoint F4EG HD204UI)
The MB BIOS recognises the new drive OK, stating size to be 2000Gb.
I can run Samsung ESTOOL OK.

Using NASLite-M2 I can format the drive
mke2fs says 488378637 blocks of 4096 which is equivalent to 2TB
and it says that formatting etc. went OK and the drive will be available after next boot.
(As I have tried a few times I can add that running "Check file system and repair" goes throught without errors.)
But on boot the message line goes: "Checking storeage file system (Disk-1) (Idle)....................[PASS]"
and in the system info it is stated that the drive is NOT mounted.

I have then tried the Core3 HDT. And here I see that the size of this disk is presented by some rather random characters instead of a proper size.

So I'm inclined to conclude that NASLite-M2 does not support 2Tb drives.
Is there an official limit for hard disk size in v1.63?
When will we see NASLite support for such disks?

regards

Did you mount the drive after formatting it?

I would concur with this when a drive shows as idle it usually means that it is formatted and ready for use but hasnt been put into service yet.

Telnet to the box
3 ( Storage Configuration)
Select the disk in question
Check that the disk is exported in the way that you want ie RW if not then press 1 repeatedly until it is
set the capacity alarm by pressing 2 repeatedly until it is how you want it.

[ Main Media server ] - Administration Utility - NASLite-M2 x64 v1.62 02-2010

2 - Set Disk-1 Capacity Alarm [ 95 ] (75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 99, --)

9 - Mirror to Disk-1 from [ NONE ]

R - Return To Storage Configuration Menu

Select: >

Return to main menu (R then R again)
9 to save config
7 to reboot

The disk should now be available to you

ps Naslite actually has a 16 TB Disk limit which is a limitation on the EXT3 file system, As you can see from the screen print above that is exactly what I have on my Disk-1.

Hope this helps a little. Let us know how you get on.

Doug

Ahhh. Silly me.
Yes, I did indeed forget to export.

Thank you very much for guiding me.

If I should try to explain, I will add, that I find the message after the finish of formatting, that "the drive will be ready after next reboot" is somewhat misleading, and should be extended to include something like: "Don't forget to export".

Also I have difficulty understanding the use of the term "Export" as a requirement for "Mounting", but maybe I'm just too ignorant.

Regards
