I am getting ready to install a Promise SATA300 TX4 controller and HD in my NASLite-M2 box. Can I assume that because the controller is listed on the NASLite-M2 CORE3 Storage Hardware Reference Guide that the NASLite-M2 OS will recognize it and have the proper drivers? I'm assuming that's the case, but I wanted to double-check.

The new HD is a WD SATA II bare drive. It's not clear to me whether it is necessary to format it before connecting to the new controller [if so what file system to use?] or whether NASLite-M2 will recognize it as unformatted and provide a formatting option?

I'm apologize if I'm asking what should be obvious, but I don't do this frequently enough to know the nuances.

Thanks very much.

if its on the list it should be ok - plug it in and see is the obvious way forward - i have the 150 version in mine and its fine - cannot see that this will not work

you need to add the drive and format it through NasLite - the option should be there - just be careful you select the correct drive - i always disconnect all the others to be 100% sure

it may alter the drive order depending on what other drives you have - as far as i know theres not much you can do about that

Hi
If you change the controler, you may have to reactivate/unlock NL. I'm not 100% sure that the controler is part of the controlled hardwares for the unlocking but seems logic.

Thanks all. Plugged in the controller and fired up the hard drive and NASLite-M2 took care of the rest. Good advice about disconnecting other drives. All is well.
