Guys I have a problem

I have a large raid 5 array (13.7Tib exported) and had an unexpected power shutdown yesterday, Power nas back on and the array is not mounting suspect that fsck is needed.

Left it overnight to see if it would sort itself out it hasnt.

Ran a manual file check and got the following after a short while (prob 20 mins or so)

Quote:
[ NASLite-M2x64 ] - Administration Utility - NASLite-M2 x64 v1.62 02-2010

device [last_block [start_block]]
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Error allocating icount link information: Memory allocation failed
e2fsck: aborted

You must reboot NASLite-M2 x64 to mount Disk-1.

I suspect that I may have to through more ram at this to resolve but would appreciate any thoughts that you may have.

the logs indicate that e2fsck needs to be run and that all is ok with the raid array?

p.s. the system currently has 2 gB ram and a single Opteron 250 CPU.

It has been rock solid since built at the start of the year.

Try a live Linux CD and run FSCK from that. I suspect that it is gonna take a bit of time with an array of that size.

Mike

as ever your input is greatly appreciated :)

I had thought of that but is naslite not going to try and do it itself due to the 180 day rule and still fail ?

But I will DL one shoulf the additional ram not work (it has done this before and did the fsck with 4 Gb of ram but I removed some for another M/c Will have to find it and re-install it) if that works then I will have to purchase some more Registered ECC Ram for it fortunately it isn't horendously expensive.

I don't know if it will help or not, i suspect that it won't, but if you have it put it in.

Ok quick update

Have robbed 4 Gb ram from the other server (that is now running on 4 Gb quite happily) added it to the problem server exported the array and now it is checking the array at boot (taking a while as expected) so looks like the ram may have been the cause of it refusing to do the fsck.

Will give a further update as I have any news.

Doug.

Update

the extra Ram solved the problem it ran for just over 4 hours.

Now very happy again but still waiting for SanLite to come along.
