2 drives.

Drive 1 contains important data
Drive 2 contains same data (copied over)

Drive 1 drive fails;

1. Removed drive and tested in USB dock - I can see the drive in Windows XP (Healthy) but it is inaccessable.
2. Put drive back into NAS reboot - still fails.
3. Reboot NAS - drive 1 still fails.
4. Drive 2 now fails.

What is happening and how can I fix it?

Cheers, Mark.

dont know enough to know whats happening but i would look at the drive via a linus distro - ubuntu or mint - see what that tells you - you can run a checkdisk - is it fsdisk - not sure - if the drive has failed thats one thing but if its still good the data will be there

SATA or IDE?

Try replacing the cable/s first.

Then run a disk check.

Both SATA 1TB drives

Both drives appear in bios.

Reset the BIOS to factory. Set the drives to none in the BIOS and disable all the devices not used on the motherboard. Also, did you upgrade the box in any way? If something hardware changed it will invalidate the license and require a new unlock. For that matter also check the unlock key and make sure it is valid.
