Which alarm? The one on the Adaptec card or a NASLite generated alarm through the system speaker? If the latter, please indicate how many high/low beeps (long and short?) and the sequence.

It's the system speaker. And the front power button is flashing a different color. It's not coming from the raid card. it's a steady 5 min long alarm. One pitch. 5 min long.. then a pause for a few min.. then it comes on again.

here's how i know. The beep doesn't start until after nas loads itself up and is ready.. (after it does all the loading and disk scans etc.. ) the adaptec card is ready to go way before that when bios boots up.. so it is definatly the nas system giving this long 5 min long continuous beep.

Sounds like a BIOS based hardware monitor and NOT NASLite. To the best of my knowledge NL doesn't have any alarms that just continue to sound like that. You may have a fan that is not spinning and causing the alarm to go off. Check that out and get back to us.

I'd like to give an update to this for anyone who might come across it. Problem has been solved:

1. A sony Vaoi giving you a long beep and flashing power lights is indeed a bios alarm.

2. in my case turned out to be an overheading cpu.

3. I fixed it by unseating the cpu, cleaning out the dust from the heat sink, and fan, lubricating the fan, lubricating the power supply fan, and getting rid of all the dust i could find.

Problem solved.

It happened after a reboot because nas was doing a diskcheck on 500 gigs, which got the cpu really warm.

If anyone else happens to come across it and the above can help you, i'm happy to have helped.

Thanks for the update.

I periodically blow out my servers and computers to keep that to a minimum. In the case of my main machine I have water cooled and this minimizes the issue but for the others... I keep a close watch on the cooling fans and sinks.

Glad we could be of help.

Mike
