Correct me if I am wrong but if I remember correctly a RAID is seen as a single disk.

I am assuming that I can use the mirror function of NASlite M2 to mirror a RAID 5 array of 3 500GB drives to a single 2TB drive?

Smart a$$! :D

Yes you can. What Nick means is that a RAID5 array with three 500GB disks is less storage than a 1TB drive. IE: a 500GB drive is really more like 470GB after formatting.

1TB..2TB..3TB..4 I'd have to go look up the formula to see how much storage is left.

The reason I am asking and I thought I asked this somewhere before but i cannot locate it. I am trying to look to see if the newer M2 version can use the RAID controllers onboard my motherboard and then I wanted to mirror it to another drive.

I am using an ASUS P5AD2 Deluxe. It has these three controllers listed as onboard:

Silicon Image Sil 3114
ITE 8212
Intel ICH6R

All of which appear on the storage list of hardware. Correct me if wrong but NLM2 does not support software RAID (yet). This is where it gets hazy for me. I have the controllers onboard and to me that is hardware. How can I tell if these are hardware or software RAID and whether or not it would work for RAID?

Silicon Image Sil 3114 Soft RAID, will not work in RAID on NL yet.
ITE 8212 Don't know off the top of my head.
Intel ICH6R I think this is the interface built into the Intel chipset.

1) How do you know if it is softraid or not. Is there some indicator? i.e. for the Sil3114 I noticed in the MB manual it talks about setting up the array with the software manager and that you have to install the program.

The ICH6R is listed as the southbridge RAID controller in my manual. Not that manuals are perfect. These maybe software, but my manual says I can setup an array using any of the 3 I listed.
