NASLite Network Attached Storage

I have used NASLite 2 on several servers but am looking at creating one with M2.
I have looked at the forums but am still a little confused about how M2 works with iTunes and syncing music to an iPhone.
I have a mix of Macs and PCs on my home network and want to be able to sync music stored on the M2 with two iPhones. One from a Mac and the other from a PC. From what I can gather, the music on the M2 will show as a share in iTunes.

My question is will I be able to sync the music on the M2 with the iPhones? Based on my experience with sharing music between the Mac and PC using iTunes home sharing, you cannot sync "shared" music. Is this true with M2?

Why not try foobar2000 with the foo_dop component to allow syncing?

Might be an option for windows but not mac. Does not answer my question unless you are answering by offering another option instead of iTunes.

Yes, I was recommending a PC based alternative to iTunes - I have used it with my iPod.
