Tried to access my server and got nothing. Attached is the screenshot - this is the second time that this has happened, but I didn't take a photo of the screen the last time. Requires a reset / power-cycle to get it going again....

Is this known rock solid hardware?

If I were running the OS on my present server hardware and that happened I would likely be blaming the OS but if the hardware is not proven with a couple of years of running flawless I would look at that before I pointed a finger at the OS.

Just my knee jerk reaction to a hard crash like you have there.

Look at the memory really closely.

This can be caused by a number of things, but RAM is the first thing I'd look at. The pdflush event basically flushes cached pages to free up RAM for other uses. It can also be a drive/controller or the CPU that causes it. Heat, power, and a whole host of things can be the culprit, but RAM is the most likely offender.

Finally carried out the memtest and it has passed with no errors. However, I have had a couple more of the same crashes since last posting.

[edit] Hmmm.... The server reset when it was running memtest+ v4.10 at the end of the second round this evening - time to test individual RAM modules separately.... [/edit]

Modules checked out ok separately. Now running two rather than four x 2GB modules (proximity to CPU cooler and no convection airflow (motherboard vertical, RAM slots horizontal). Noticed that this nVidia chipset motherboard actually clocks the RAM at 414MHz (828MHz) when the CPU is at its stock 2.9GHz. I have lowered the CPU multiplier by 0.5 to bring the CPU speed down to 2.8GHz and the RAM to 400MHz (800MHz).
