Welcome to NASLite !

You do not need any OS on the machine that will become the NAS server.

Search these forums for HOW to burn the downloaded ISO image. ( I suspect your CD is not booting because of an improper burn process. )

The HDD you plan to use in your server should not contain any important data. You will reformat and lose all info on the HDD once you have successfully booted from the CD (or installed NASLite M2 on the HDD or a USB stick).

No ... wrong procedure. Again ... Search this forum with the words "burn ISO".

The ISO is a bootable IMAGE ... do not extract or burn individual files ...

The HDD can be any format before you install NASLite. NASLite will format it as Linux ext3.

Try this topic: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3133&hilit=burn+ISO

There are many software choice to burn ISO ... I don't use NERO ... I use "Iso-burner.exe" (google for it).

You double click on the iso file and if you have a burning software installed (per ex Nero), the iso will be burned to the CD.

Then boot your future server from this CD and follow the instructions of NL. Your hard drives will be formated with a Linux ext3 filesystem but you don't really care as you can access the files on the drives via Linux, Mac and Windows OS

If you're using Windows then download and install Imgburn then burn the ISO to CD with that.

It seems that your PC has associated ISO files with WinRAR and opens them as an archive by default.
