i'm new here just got naslite m2
wanted to know if i can ftp my server from say work or some hotel room
if so can someone tell me?

do i need to know the ip address that i got from comcast i gave my friend the ip address
that my nas have on my network and tried to connect but can't find it

It would be most unwise to setup your NL box to be accessible from the outside unless you use and secure VPN server and client to make it happen. There is no facility in NL for this though.

then whats the reason for ftp on your own network if everyone on same network can access from within then home network
i would figure that ftp meant i could access my files when not at home

FTP is just another way to access your files, just like NFS or SMB. NL is NOT designed to provide a secure file exporting structure to the internet, it is strictly a personal file server with very low overhead and excellent performance for the home user.

You will need to bring other tools and devices to the party to make your wish come true.

Sorry if that is not what you want to hear but stick around and read a bit and you will start to see the logic in it.
